I was pretty nervous for this final group project. As I mentioned in the end of the year reflection, I work very well on my own, and working with three other people, who I didn’t know, was kind of scary. It was different in the beginning, but we were pretty quick to get comfortable with each other. In the very beginning after the first assignment we were able to figure out our roles in the group. I fell like I took on one of the leader roles and was good at communicating with my group members. After all that was figured out, everything went smoothly. Overall, I am very proud of what we accomplished. Right off the start we got to work and scheduled meetings in order to fulfill our vision. We spoke to numerous adults and received a lot of great and positive responses. Something I was nervous about was getting a shut down form the very beginning, but that was not the case. I wasn't a no response, but it wasn't a yes either. Each of us, very different brought something to the project, and we worked well together. Although we were not completely successful in implementing the school service, I think we have inspired many, along with ourselves, and I would love to see this through.

I was not in school today; however, I heard about the lockdown, and I am assuming that my group mates didn't have much time to practice their presentation. We did not practice or go over who is saying what last class, so I hope they take some time to talk to each other before they present in front of everyone. We have had a lot of practice presenting our ideas to adults, so I am sure they will do fine. For our A team presentations, we did not rehearse anything because a impromptu presentation would be more natural. This seemed to go well, and I think they are going to treat this presentation the same way. The only thing I am worried about is the time limit. Since they probably have not and are not going to practice, they will not be aware of how long or short their actual presentation is. I will try to contact them sometime tomorrow to check in and wish them luck. I am confident they will do great!
Our final presentation is in a couple of days, and our group is working to wrap up our project. We have done a good job documenting our journey, so we have had no problems writing a report and creating a power point. Our presentation, which is due tomorrow, is complete. We are using the same power point that we presented to administration during our meeting, but we have additional slides with information about the feedback we received and how we adjusted to things as the project wen on. We turned in a draft of our paper yesterday, and are currently working to add to it and clean things up. We are on top of things and are at a very good place.
Today was our very last meeting. We met with someone from the ops team and shared with him our project. He was very helpful and had a lot to say. He didn't seem to know much about the curriculum here or anything about school service, so we gave him a little background on it. We was very open to the idea of working with students. He mentioned that the ops team employs about 26 people, but each person has a different role. On such a large campus there is so much work that needs to be done, and he mentioned that any help they are given in tremendous. We also mentioned that we wanted to do work at Keanakamanō, and he was again very interested. He talked about how they are already trying to do stuff such as lāʻau lapaʻau down there when we mentioned some thing we envisioned. He was very helpful, and he said he would try to get back to us with some information.
Tonight our group pieced together our project to make our draft paper. We have our meeting with the ops team tomorrow during class and that will be our final meeting until this project is finished with. We still have a lot more work to do if we want our idea to go through and it is not going to be easy, but our group came this far and were not going to give up. This week Friday is our presentation of our project were we present what our project was and what we have completed. I believe that our group is more than ready for this, but we can only present the data we have so far. Tomorrow in class, after our meeting, we will have a better understanding of what we need to do next so that we can move forward with the project. After this meeting, we will have a better understanding of where we stand and how much data we have to present at our presentation. Hopefully we make a big step through this meeting with the ops
As our group has had many meetings with the A-team, L-team, Head of Alumni we still have one meeting left and that is with the Operation team. After our two meetings this past week, our group realized that we have a lot more to do with this project. It is more than just asking to implement something new into the school system. We realized that we are graduating in a couple weeks and we need someone to help carry this on for us. We got the idea of doing a mixed homeroom with 9,10,11 and 12th graders so that people are constantly coming in and out. I know that it will be hard to do this, but our group has come so far with this project, but there is still so much more work to do with so little time left. We hope that with our meeting with the operation team will give us better insights so that we can move on with this project and hopefully get it to where we want it to be. E OLA KAPĀLAMA!
Today we had not only one but two important meetings. Our first meeting was with PAR. We reached out but received no response as to when we could schedule a meeting. However, when Mr. Blake mentioned another group was meeting with them, he convinced them to meet with us for a very short amount of time. We gave a brief summary about our project and why we would like to get PAR involved. She seemed very positive and willing to help this project, and told us to shoot her a followup email. After that meeting, we went back to class and prepared for our final A team meeting. In that meeting, we sat with the administrators and gave them a followup as to where our project is. We took a lot of their suggestions and answered a lot of their questions. They also commended us on our hard work! We are excited about the progress we've made, but we are no where near close to this idea actually being implemented.
Today we did not have class, but we prepared more for this meeting. We decided to not do handouts this time one because of time and two because it is not necessary. We are going in with the goal of getting this approved, and we want to know when the next steps are in order the see this project through. I explained our proposal in yesterdays blogpost, and from what I know there aren't any changes. Breeze is supposed to contact the ops team and inform them about our project. We are only contacting them to see if they are on board with the project. Other than that, I think we are ready.
In class today we discussed our next steps as this project is coming to an end. We have our last meeting with the A team on Friday, and we spent majority of the time solidifying a plan. We went over the notes from the L team meeting and compared it to the response we got from the A team meeting, and we tried to answer a lot of the recurring questions. A question that has been asked is how are we going to ensure that this plan is successful in the upcoming years since we are all seniors and will be leaving KS soon. As a group we decided to change our plan and instead propose a mixed homeroom of students in grades 9-12. From there students will be pulled for school service. It is still doing what we envisioned, and it ensures the project will be ongoing. Another question that was asked is how will we upkeep the gardens over summer and long breaks. We are going to propose that a students school service requirement can be waived when they work over the summer, or summer camps such as concert glee and ensemble can offer work. There are many solutions that can be arranged if needed. We feel this this is a reasonable plan and hope it is successful. Going into this last meeting we hope to address everything that needs to be done in order for this to be a success.
Today was our meeting with the L team. We told ourselves it was going to be fine because we have already done it once and are prepared, but things got real when we were sitting outside waiting to be invited in. The door to the meeting room happened to be open, and we could see the packed room. In those 15 minutes, we could't help but be nervous. But again, things went perfectly fine if not better than the first meeting. We gained a lot of positive feedback and helpful suggestions. An issue that seems to be popping up is what will happen in the future, and how will we ensure that this this effort is sustainable? This is something we will need to address before we meet with the A team again this Friday. We will brainstorm tomorrow.
